It's been four months since the unveiling of the iPhone 12 series, and there hasn't been a hint of a rumor surrounding the release of a Smart Battery Case.
The only newsworthy statement from Parker Ortolani was that the iPhone 12 Smart Battery Case would be MagSafe compatible. In truth, Apple may never make such a case because, with MagSafe, the battery pack can simply attach magnetically to the back of your handset or case. You don't have to consistently carry the extra weight when you only want a protective case.
Many people discussed the idea of a magnetic wireless power bank soon after Apple introduced MagSafe. Apple has already developed a new line of magnetic accessories, taking advantage of the circular magnet array in the iPhone 12, so a MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 12 makes sense. The challenge would be to keep the battery pack attached. Stronger magnets may be required since the pack is much heavier than the MagSafe wallet and charger.
While we're guessing when or whether Apple will make a start, let's look at some alternatives to the Smart Battery Case.

If you appreciate the Apple Smart Battery Case design, you may find various options from third-party accessory makers. Most of those cases are more affordable than Apple's and come in various colors.
If you want to try an iPhone MagSafe compatible battery pack, there are quite a few options available. As we discussed above, this kind of design allows you to choose when to attach the battery pack, but the attachment method varies.
