Apple has released all kinds of accessories to get the most out of the iPhone 12 line. But many people have found one thing missing - the iPhone 12 Smart Battery Case.
While the iPhone 12's battery should last for one day, you may need extra power to get through if you are traveling or working overtime. Some people will choose to use a standard power bank, others would prefer the Apple Smart Battery Case.
The Apple Smart Battery Case Works Great for Some
When Apple announced a Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, it set the internet abuzz with discussions. Some people applauded its smart design, while others sneered at it. Nevertheless, Apple continued to make the Battery Case for the iPhone 7, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone 11 Series.
People love the Smart Battery Case for many reasons. Most importantly, it extends your phone's battery life. After a day of heavy use, your phone needs recharging. Who doesn't want to see their iPhone last one more day with one charge? The Smart Battery Case gives you up to 50% longer battery life. It's an external half-sized power bank, but unlike other power banks, it's invisible, integrated with the phone cover, making it much easier to carry. Additionally, there's no cable to worry about, either. Battery life aside, it still functions as a typical phone case protecting your device.
The Smart Battery Case solves a major pain point; however, this benefit can hardly justify the problems it causes. The most common complaint is how it looks. Tucked into the battery pack bumper case, your iPhone is thicker, longer, and heavier. It's not handy anymore and lacks the minimalist style of Apple products. Also, with a bulky case, the device is more likely to heat up when charging or playing games. The case only comes with a silicone finish, which quickly gets dirty as it collects dust and gets greasy with fingerprints. Lastly, it costs as much as a multiple-device wireless charger.
Would this meet your needs?
iPhone 12 Smart Battery Case Coming Soon?
It's been four months since the unveiling of the iPhone 12 series, and there hasn't been a hint of a rumor surrounding the release of a Smart Battery Case.
The only newsworthy statement from Parker Ortolani was that the iPhone 12 Smart Battery Case would be MagSafe compatible. In truth, Apple may never make such a case because, with MagSafe, the battery pack can simply attach magnetically to the back of your handset or case. You don't have to consistently carry the extra weight when you only want a protective case.
Many people discussed the idea of a magnetic wireless power bank soon after Apple introduced MagSafe. Apple has already developed a new line of magnetic accessories, taking advantage of the circular magnet array in the iPhone 12, so a MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 12 makes sense. The challenge would be to keep the battery pack attached. Stronger magnets may be required since the pack is much heavier than the MagSafe wallet and charger.
While we're guessing when or whether Apple will make a start, let's look at some alternatives to the Smart Battery Case.
What are the Alternatives for the iPhone 12 Smart Battery Case?
If you appreciate the Apple Smart Battery Case design, you may find various options from third-party accessory makers. Most of those cases are more affordable than Apple's and come in various colors.
If you want to try an iPhone MagSafe compatible battery pack, there are quite a few options available. As we discussed above, this kind of design allows you to choose when to attach the battery pack, but the attachment method varies. Mophie's Juice Pack Connect boasts a 5,000mAh capacity and works with any Qi-enabled smartphone. It uses an anchor instead of magnets to attach to the phone case. Some other MagSafe battery packs attach to the iPhone 12 without a case or with an iPhone case with MagSafe.
However, you'll face one big problem once the power bank and the case are separated. Not only do you need to worry about recharging your phone but also the power bank. If you don't usually need extra battery life, it won't be as problematic. However, power banks lose power over time, and by the time you go to use it again, it'll be out of juice.
According to a PITAKA survey, 42.9% of respondents said they often forgot to charge their power banks. As I've discussed before, many people don't realize a pain point until a product solves it for them. This is why PITAKA designers created a magnetic wireless power bank that's always ready, and the user doesn't have to 'think' about charging.
MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 Recommendation
The MagEZ Juice 2 is a magnetic wireless power bank and a wireless charging stand. Embedded with magnets, the power bank attaches to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 case with MagSafe and PITAKA MagEZ cases with built-in metal plates. When you don't need it, just slide it into the charging stand. As long as there's power, the base will charge up the power pack.
You can also attach your iPhone upright, and both your phone and the magnetic power pack will charge simultaneously. The power bank also comes in five different colors with a unique aramid fiber finish.
We may not see the Apple Smart Battery Case design for the iPhone 12, but the company may release a MagSafe battery pack as the solution to extend battery life. However, this might not be the perfect solution for everyone, and luckily, there are alternatives on the market.
